Thank Yous

This project would not be possible in the slightest without the help and kindness of so many who supported me throughout my recovery.

To my parents, thank you for dropping everything the moment I got injured and being more supportive than any child could ask for. You went above and beyond, staying with me in Ann Arbor for over a month and putting a cross-country move on hold, and I still haven’t found the right way to thank you for being the reason I was able to stay in Ann Arbor and finish that semester on time. But what I’m most thankful for is that the second I broke my leg, I knew you would do all of that before I could even think about asking for your help. Thank you for always reminding me to put my health and well-being first, and thank you for emphasizing that even more these past 14 months.

To my physical therapists, thank you for not only helping me get my strength, mobility, and life back, but for making physical therapy appointments something I always enjoyed. To the team at Probility, thank you for being so fun, engaging, welcoming, and playful. I always looked forward to my appointments, and I hope you don’t miss my weekly puzzles too much. A special thank you to Caroline for serving as my consultant on this project and giving me invaluable advice and answering all my questions. Thank you all for being people I always got excited to see. Thank you also to the physical therapy clinic at the University of Michigan Hospital. You taught me how to walk, how to bend my knee, and how to move my leg when I couldn’t imagine being capable of any of it, and you did it in the most supportive and kind way.

Thank you to the rest of the medical providers I’ve seen over the past 14 months, from Liz, the paramedic who visited me multiple times in the hospital, to the surgeons, nurses, techs, physicians, and everyone else who treated me at any point in the process.

Thank you to my friends and the rest of my family for every gesture of support, from hospital visits to Strava kudos. It kept me going and motivated in ways I cannot begin to explain. I often try to tell you how grateful I am, but ‘thank you’ will never do justice to the impact your kindness had on me. Thank you for reminding me how far I’ve come and reminding me that it’s okay and expected to struggle with things I hadn’t done in a year.

Thank you also to my classmates in this Capstone course. Your advice was tremendously helpful in shaping how this project came together, and your support and encouragement throughout this semester meant even more.

Thank you to every single person who has helped and supported me on this journey in any way, shape, or form. I’m positive I wouldn’t be where I am today without you all.
