March 24 — 5 Miles?!

5 miles, f*** yeah. It’s cold again so I had to run on the treadmill, but I decided I was going to aim for 5 miles, and I really wanted to hit my goal. It wasn’t easy and there were moments where I was getting cramps and really out of breath, but genuinely no pain in my right leg at all. I’ve been noticing that for a while, or rather not noticing any pain, which is great. There are still some moments where it feels a little weird, but honestly most of them aren’t when I’m working out. I don’t even know when that happened, but it’s so cool that it did. My legs felt really heavy immediately after my run and have continued to grow heavier, so that’ll be a fun thing to look forward to when I wake up tomorrow morning. I’m curious how my knees will feel, since that’s where I felt the most discomfort after my 4.5 mile run before break. Two other wins from the run: I ran most of it at 5.5 mph, and most of the last mile at 5.6 or 5.7. During my cool down, I was able to run/jog even at speeds as slow as 3 mph. That’s certainly new and exciting, and another sign I’ve noticed that I’m getting really close to back to normal.

I don't know the exact longest run I ran in the past, but I know it's somewhere in the 5 mile range. It's really cool that I'm so close.

Revisiting this on March 25th, I’m actually not as sore as I expected today (beyond a little stiffness in my knees). I'm definitely less sore than I was after I ran 4.5 miles in February.
